REW Visits Eastside Bistro in Avalon Park

October 18th, 2013 by REW Blog Team

Come one, come all to the friendly community of Avalon Park and visit a neighborhood favorite . . . the Eastside Bistro. This charming café style restaurant is the epitome of upscale casual dining. Purchased by a new owner at the beginning of the year, the Eastside Bistro has been completely renovated. Not only has the inside been rejuvenated, but the outside boasts a delightful new patio and bar area that overlooks a quaint little park with a great view of the fountain in Avalon’s town center.

Eastside Bistro features an extensive menu featuring food for all age ranges and appetites. We decided to start of with the stuffed mushrooms. Mushroom caps stuffed with lump crabmeat stuffing and topped with a lemon white wine sauce. They were just as delicious as they looked. For main entrees we choose to experience the menu from different sides of the spectrum picking the Pan Seared Salmon and the Pub Burger. The salmon comes pan roasted to perfection, accompanied by crisp asparagus and Florida citrus salad with arugula, cherry tomatoes, orange and lime slices, citrus dressing and salsa verde. A great combination of flavors that was very light and tasty. The Pub Burger was charbroiled and topped with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, an excellent house made steak sauce with a heap of freshly cut, crispy steak fries on the side. I’d say it was burger heaven for sure. On Tuesday’s I’m told they have all the burgers on their menu for just $6, what an awesome deal and something I would highly recommend. The owner, JC has told us that he will be bringing back the ever popular Sunday brunch in about a month – okay I’m in because it’s back by popular demand and it’s bound to be as palette pleasing as his daily menu. And last but certainly not the least by far, was the pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Seasonal decadence at its finest and just so you know all of Eastside Bistro’s dessert are made locally by a bakery right in Avalon Park.

Craving good food along with entertainment? Eastside Bistro has something yummy or entertaining every night of the week. Bingo, trivia, $6 burger night and live music on the weekends. What more could you ask for? Take your pet for an evening walk, on your way stop by Eastside Bistro and have a bite to eat, enjoy the ambiance and chat with a few of your neighbors. A great place to socialize, bringing the community together like JC says, “it’s all about relationships”. Visit often and keep your eyes peeled – I hear an expansion is a brewin’.

If fun, food and a great atmosphere is what you crave, check out Eastside Bistro. It is located in the heart of Avalon Park at 12001 Avalon Lake Dr., Suite F in Orlando. Planning a big event, they cater too. Give them a call at 407-381-0096, you’ll be glad you did!

Hot Cider vs Hot Chocolate

November 14th, 2012 by REW Blog Team

The leaves are turning and winter winds are begining to howl. Jackets and flannel PJ’s are brought out of storage and mothballs are thrown out. The temptation to stay home and curl-up on the sofa with a mug of something hot and steamy and watch cartoons all day is a big one. So what’s in the mug? Is it hot cocoa, with its creamy, smooth, chocolatey taste with whipped cream or marshmallows on top. Or is it hot apple cider, with its nice, smooth, spicy flavor and that apple, cinnamon and nutmeg smell that clings to the air for hours on end. Both sound so good! Which is the better choice? Fruity or Chocolatey? To answer that question we had a in-house survey – Hot Chocolate or Hot Apple Cider ? And REW’s drink of choice is…… Hot Chocolate! With people preferring hot chocolate 3 to 1. Sorry, apple cider, better luck next season. What about you guys, which do you like, hot chocolate or hot apple cider.

Vita-Mix Paradise

October 16th, 2009 by REW Blog Team

For years I have sold Vita-Mix blenders and dreamed of all the wonderful things I could make if I had a Vita-Mix (vit-748) of my very own.  I sold one to a person who owned a yacht that shuttled people back and forth from Sarasota FL to the Bahamas.  For hours after that, I imagined myself on the deck of that yacht with the breeze blowing through my hair while sipping a tall piña colada.  Another time,  I sold one to a bride-to-be for her bachelorette party.  Then, my thoughts were of leading the conga line after downing one-too-many margaritas at the party.  Once I sold one to a little Mexican restaurant around the corner that has the BEST salsa.  Little did I know, they make that world class salsa in the same Vita-Mix blender that I have coveted for years!  Who knew?

Now, fast forward to last month when we were gathered for a staff meeting to discuss an upcoming event: We had previously submitted our ideas and were getting together to brainstorm that day and decide which ones we were going to implement.  I thought it was going to be the same kind of meeting we always have…. You know…Sit around and throw ideas back and forth and the last person standing is the winner.  But upon entering the conference room, I knew this was going to be a meeting like no other because there was a Vita-Mix blender in the center of the table!  Once we were all seated,  the boss gave this speech about how one person had gone above and beyond his expectations on this project and he was so happy with this person he wanted to reward them with a token of appreciation…. The Vita-Mix blender!!!  I started eyeing my co-workers around the table and thinking…. If Melissa gets it, I can probably borrow it….if Erin gets it, I could probably buy it from her pretty cheap….if Manny gets it, he’s giving it to his Mom for Christmas and I am out of luck. ..  Well, imagine my surprise when he announced MY name!!  I was so surprised and overwhelmed I was speechless.  Not only did my suggestions get implemented, but I also got the blender I had been drooling over for years!  I was thrilled!

Since then, a typical day at my house starts with a fruit smoothie for breakfast, made in my Vita-Mix.  Followed by homemade soup for lunch (made with puree blended in my Vita-Mix).  And topped off by a nice strawberry daiquiri after dinner…..of course, made in my Vita-Mix.  …….life is good!
