According to a survey from Datassential, over 80% of American diners surveyed stated that they enjoy barbecue. In fact, specific types of barbecue cuisine are incredibly popular among customers, particularly Texan and Korean flavors and styles. Certain barbecue items, especially chicken wings, are performing very well with customers. The menu proliferation of chicken wings surged by 373% in 2023.

One secret to barbecue's current success is most likely related to savings. Although rising inflation and costs of capital have greatly impacted the restaurant industry, barbecue-based menus have generally proven to be among the cheaper and more cost-friendly options for customers. On top of that, items like ribs and chicken wings are prime candidates for take out and delivery options, helping customers save even more money and time that would have been spent with a trip to a brick-and-mortar location.

Another strength of barbecue is that it is fairly streamlined in terms of the cooking process. Former executive chef Peter Farrand notes, "[The] prep is basically all on the front-end; because we're retherming and serving, we're able to do these additional concepts." Indeed, barbecue items are typically faster and easier to prepare and preserve compared to other cuisines. This has made them invaluable to certain restaurants and foodservices, as they can be made fresh and given to customers relatively quickly.

Together with advancements in cooking technology, barbecue's cost-effectiveness and general appeal poses a potentially lucrative opportunity for the restaurant industry.
