Sandwiches are great lunch choices, combining a variety of flavors while also being relatively quick to make and easy to pack. Many use toasters, stovetop grilling, or ovens to make their sandwiches. But there do exist two special alternatives that combine quality with speed and ease of use. Specifically, panini presses and sandwich makers offer unique and useful methods for making fresh sandwiches.
Traditionally, sandwiches can be made using appliances such as stovetops and toasters. One of the drawbacks of these methods is that they are generally more imprecise compared to sandwich presses and panini presses. Using these methods may prove messy or may not cook sandwiches evenly. Sandwich makers and panini presses are more specified and thus are geared more toward cooking sandwiches thoroughly and quickly. Additionally, they reduce the amount of cookware required to make sandwiches, which decreases the amount of clean-up required after operations.
There are subtle but important differences between sandwich makers and panini presses. Sandwich makers are made up of two plates that are connected via a hinge and feature a dial for controlling the temperature. The user places a sandwich between the plates and closes them together, and the heat generated by the plates cooks the sandwich inside and out. Panini presses, on the other hand, resemble and operate like traditional grills. They have at least two hinged plates and they vary in size. There are also certain presses that have interchangeable plates for different types of sandwiches or even different foods.
Sandwich makers typically cook faster than panini presses and are easy to store and move. This is good news for those who need expediency, but it comes at a cost. Because of the faster cooking speed, the resulting sandwiches may not be cooked as well as one would like. It is true that the design ensures both sides of the sandwich are cooked simultaneously, but the inside of the sandwich could potentially not be cooked as thoroughly. Panini presses, though slower and less portable than sandwich makers, push down on the sandwich to not only get through to the inside layers, but also seal the sandwich together to reduce the chances of the sandwich falling apart.
Overall, sandwich makers and panini presses are valuable equipment for any business selling fresh sandwiches. Though each has their own drawbacks, they are useful in their own ways depending on how you want to make your sandwiches.
