Why Use An Air Curtain For A Walk-In?

Walk-in coolers are incredibly useful storage spaces that can keep food preserved and provide adequate space for all things best kept frozen. Unbeknownst to many, however, walk-ins have major energy and health concerns that should be kept in mind. The solution: installing an air curtain.

Air curtains are devices that are mounted above the entrances to walk-in coolers. They produce air that essentially separates the environment outside the walk-in from the environment on the inside. This is extremely important to the energy and health benefits that air curtains provide.

Without an air curtain, warm and moist air can enter the walk-in cooler and increase compressor cooling load. This means that the foreign air effectively increases the amount of cooling necessary to preserve the items inside the walk-in, thereby increasing the amount of energy the walk-in expends. Air curtains block out this outside air so that the inside of the walk-in remains cool and dry. As a result, users will not have to increase the energy usage to keep the walk-in cool.

As one might expect, the entry of foreign air also poses potential health risks. If the temperature inside the walk-in is not kept at adequate levels, there is a good chance the food stored inside can spoil or become contaminated. Air curtains protect the food inside of walk-ins by maintaining a stable temperature and climate within the walk-in.

Air curtains help restaurant owners save on energy and protect customers from foodborne illnesses. They are a must-have for any restaurant with a walk-in unit.
